Getting started - Apple TV

You need an account already. Sign up on your phone or on the web first — the TV app can only sign in to an existing account, it cannot create one.

Getting started on Apple TV

Install the app, sign in by scanning a code with your phone, and get to know the five tabs.

This guide covers the very first run of the Apple TV app: finding it in the App Store, the sign-in screen and its QR code, picking a language, and what each of the five tabs is for. You need the account you already use on your phone — there is no separate TV account and no password to type on the TV.

Installing the app

On your Apple TV, open the App Store and search for the app by name, then install it. It is the same app family as on your phone, built for the television. Once installed, it appears on your Home screen with your other apps.

Signing in with the QR code

The first thing the app shows is the sign-in screen. There is no keyboard entry: the TV displays a QR code and you scan it with your phone. The left side explains what to do and the right side holds the code.

1. Scan the code with your phone

Point your phone camera at the QR code on the TV. If you already have the mobile app installed on that phone, this opens straight into the app and signs the TV in.

2. Confirm on your phone

Your phone asks you to confirm that you want to sign this TV in. Approve it, and the TV moves on by itself — the app checks every few seconds, so there is nothing to press on the TV.

The code expires after 60 seconds and is replaced automatically. The line under the code counts down, so if it runs out just scan the new one — nothing is broken.

Signing in with a browser instead

Some leagues also offer a browser route, shown as a choice at the top of the sign-in screen. Pick it when the phone you are scanning with does not have the mobile app installed.

1. Choose the browser option

Switch the selector at the top of the screen to the browser option. The QR code below it changes to point at the website instead of the app.

2. Approve the TV on the website

Scanning opens a confirmation page in your phone's browser. Sign in there if you are not already, confirm that you want to authorise the TV, and the TV signs in.

The browser option only appears for some leagues. If you only see one QR code and no selector, your league uses the mobile app route — use the steps above.

Choosing a language

The globe button under the help text opens a language picker, and you can use it before signing in. The app supports English, Swedish, German, Italian and French, and the change applies immediately without restarting.

You can change the language again later from the Settings tab. It only affects this Apple TV.

The five tabs

Once you are signed in, everything is reached from the five tabs along the top. Press up on the remote from anywhere to get back to them.

Home

Live games, replays and highlights, gathered into rows. This is the tab you will spend most time in.

Search

Look up a club, then drill into its teams. Search finds clubs, not individual games.

Following

The teams you follow and the teams you have a role in, grouped by season.

Calendar

Your own fixtures, split into today, coming and past.

Settings

Hide scores to avoid spoilers, change the language, or sign out.
